Combined with the financial aid policy (for family income under Rs 6 L) and category-specific scholarships covering full tuition for SC/ST students, the effective cost can drop substantially.

The recruiter mix is real. Microsoft, KPMG, Thermofisher, HPCL, Bosch, and Latent View Analytics are named in the placement report. For students targeting analytics, technology consulting, life sciences, PSU energy, or manufacturing operations, the school provides a credible launchpad.

The Honest Concerns

The placement data depth is thinner than what older IIMs publish. Sector splits, role-level breakdowns, and exhaustive recruiter lists are not consistently available in the NIRF release. Candidates evaluating this school should ask the placement office directly for detailed breakdowns by sector and role at the latest open house.

The brand recognition outside south India is thinner. In Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata job markets, IIM Visakhapatnam is materially less recognised than the old IIMs or even the better-known new IIMs (Trichy, Udaipur). IIM Visakhapatnam is a credible choice if:

• You are an 80-90 percentile CAT candidate clearing the IIM V cut but not the IIM L/K/I bar
• You are targeting analytics, consulting, finance, or PSU roles in south India
• You are budget-conscious about the IIM premium
• You are a reserved-category candidate (SC overall cutoff at 50, ST/PwD at 40) for whom this gives a real path to an IIM degree

Skip it if:

• You are 95+ percentile (target an old IIM)
• You specifically want MBB-tier consulting in volume
• You need a multi-decade alumni network in north India
