NMIMS Mumbai is rated below new IIMs because placements, peer quality, and overall experience have declined in recent years despite the brand name. NMIMS has Rs 25L fees for Rs 18 LPA average with NMAT 209+ cutoff—the cost-to-outcome math does not work. Students from NMIMS frequently report dissatisfaction with placements, especially in the bottom 50 percentile of the batch.
The placement cell is considered toxic—comparable to IMT Ghaziabad for high-pressure, low-transparency culture. For the same Rs 25L, you can get into MDI Gurgaon for Rs 28.2L with Rs 22 LPA average or IIM Indore at Rs 16.
5L with Rs 25 LPA. Even IIM Rohtak at Rs 16L for Rs 18 LPA and IIM Ranchi at Rs 14L for Rs 17 LPA offer comparable placements at a fraction of the cost. NMIMS does bring a massive batch (600+ in MBA Core), which means internal competition is brutal and the bottom third struggles for decent roles.
If you are looking at NMAT-based colleges, KJ Somaiya at Rs 18L for Rs 13 LPA with NMAT 223+ is a better backup. The real reason people still target NMIMS is Mumbai location and post-MBA networking—that has value, but not enough to justify the fees. Skip NMIMS if you have any Tier-3 IIM or equivalent offer.
