What is ISB PGP-YL and who should apply for it?

ISB PGP-YL (Young Leaders) is ISB Hyderabad's one-year MBA for early-career candidates with 0-24 months of work experience, replacing the older YLP and EEO pathways. With a batch size of ~140 students and fees of roughly ₹43-45 LPA (on par with the flagship PGP), this is ISB's clearest answer to top engineering and commerce graduates who don't want to wait the 3-5 years typically needed for PGP eligibility.

Who Is This Program For

PGP-YL targets candidates who are either freshers or very early in their careers. The eligibility cutoff is strict: you must have less than 24 months of work experience as of June 15, 2025 (the join date for the first batch).

Even a single day above that disqualifies you. This is not a program for someone who "just crossed" the threshold hoping admissions won't notice.

The ideal applicant looks something like this: strong academics from a recognized undergraduate institution (IIT, NIT, BITS, SRCC, or equivalent), solid internship track record, and either a GMAT 700+ or CAT 95+ percentile. If you have 12-24 months at a Tier 1 firm (consulting, banking, or a high-growth startup), that's a real advantage over a zero-experience applicant.

Test Scores and Application Rounds

ISB accepts CAT, GMAT, or GRE, and picks the best score you submit. CAT applicants share their registration ID and ISB fetches the score directly once results are declared. GMAT and GRE scores must be submitted by the application deadline.

Applications run in two rounds: Round 1 opens October 11 and closes December 15, with Round 2 beginning in March. Apply in R1 if your profile is ready. Scholarship decisions tend to favor early applicants.

Selection and Scholarships

Selection criteria mirror the flagship PGP: essays, test scores, academic record, internships, extracurricular achievements, and letters of recommendation. There is no fixed formula, but a 9/9/8+ GPA profile from a top UG institution carries real weight.

Roughly 40-50% of the batch receives scholarships, ranging from 25% to 50% tuition waivers. Three scholarship types are available: merit-based, merit-cum-means, and work-based.

For a ₹43-45L program, that's a meaningful financial difference worth factoring into your application timeline.

Placements: What We Know

Placements for PGP-YL are separate from the flagship PGP cohort. Partner companies have expressed interest in recruiting from this batch, but since the program is new, there is no historical placement data yet.

The honest read: ISB's brand will carry weight, but you're taking a calculated bet on the first cycle. Recruiters like McKinsey, BCG, Goldman Sachs, and HUL regularly visit ISB's main campus, and the expectation is that YL placements will eventually draw from the same pool.
