XLRI and ISB don't meaningfully weight board scores - XAT/GMAT scores and profile quality drive selection. At XLRI Jamshedpur (Rs 30.6L fees, Rs 28 LPA avg, XAT 95%+ cutoff), the admission formula emphasises XAT score (~60%), followed by GK, essay, and interview performance.
10th/12th have minimal weight. At ISB Hyderabad (Rs 43L fees, Rs 34 LPA avg, GMAT 710+ cutoff), admission is entirely profile-based - GMAT, essays, recommendations, work-ex count heavily; boards are not a filter. This is why the AMA commenter said "isb dont give weightage to boards, only graduation and also gives credit to non engineering degrees.
" For candidates with weak 10th/12th, XLRI and ISB are escape routes: XLRI via XAT 95+ with strong profile; ISB via GMAT 720+ with 3+ years work-ex. ISB particularly values leadership, work-ex quality, and unique career trajectories over academic metrics. XLRI BM (Business Management) places graduates in consulting, FMCG, and finance at Rs 25-35 LPA levels.
XLRI HRM places in HR/talent at Rs 22-28 LPA. ISB places graduates across consulting, finance, tech at Rs 30-45 LPA ranges. Both institutes have 1-year (ISB) and 2-year (XLRI) programme structures.
If 10th is 55-75% and you're otherwise strong, seriously consider XAT/ISB route over IIM I/K where boards kill your chances. SPJIMR (Rs 26.5L fees, Rs 32 LPA avg, CAT 95+) also lightly weights boards - another option.
