The costs are real and you should not minimize them. Two years of foregone salary at ₹16 LPA equals ₹32L in opportunity cost. Add ₹27.5L fees at IIM Ahmedabad and your all-in cost is roughly ₹59.5L. Against an average post-MBA salary of ₹35.22 LPA at IIM-A, payback lands under three years.

IIM Bangalore and Calcutta post similar averages (₹33-35 LPA range), so the payback math holds across all three.

Pure financial payback is not why you should do this. The bigger gain is access to roles that simply do not recruit from your current track.

• Can you realistically convert IIM ABC given your profile and prep bandwidth? If yes, proceed.
