Is the IIM JAP EOI form guaranteed interview or just expression of interest?

The EOI form is not a guaranteed interview call. It is literally just permission to be considered, after which each IIM runs its own composite scoring to decide who actually gets invited to WAT-PI.

Filling the form is step one of two; getting shortlisted is step two, and those are very different things.

What Happens After You Submit the EOI

The centralized JAP portal aggregates your CAT score, academic profile, work experience, and category. Each of the 11 participating IIMs then applies its own internal formula, weighting factors differently. IIM Ranchi (fees: ₹14 LPA, average package: ₹17 LPA) and IIM Raipur (fees: ₹13 LPA) both maintain internal score thresholds that sit comfortably above the centralized CAT minimum. Clearing the published sectional cutoffs gets you into the EOI pool, not onto the interview list.

How Individual IIMs Filter the Pool

Each JAP IIM scores you on a composite that typically includes CAT percentile, Class X and XII marks, graduation CGPA, gender diversity, academic background (engineer vs. non-engineer), and work experience. The exact weights differ by institution and are not always published. A male engineer at 95 percentile with average academics may realistically receive 1-2 interview calls from the 11 JAP IIMs. A female non-engineer with strong academics at the same percentile can expect 4-5 calls, because diversity-conscious scoring at IIMs like Ranchi and Udaipur materially benefits that profile.

These are realistic ranges, not guarantees. Profiles with work experience above 24 months typically score better on the composite at IIM Ranchi, IIM Kashipur, and IIM Trichy.

Why You Should Fill the EOI for All 11 IIMs

The EOI form costs nothing. Skipping an IIM because you assume you won't be shortlisted is a self-defeating move.

Your composite score may be stronger at one IIM than you expect, purely because of how that institution weights diversity or work experience. Fill all 11, then let the shortlists come back before making any assumptions.

Calibrating Expectations Honestly

At 92 percentile clearing sectionals, you are in the EOI pool but should expect to receive calls from roughly 2-4 IIMs, not all 11. At 97+ percentile with a differentiated profile (non-engineering background, female, or significant work experience), you have a realistic shot at 6-8 calls.

This path is not a lottery, but it is profile-dependent in ways that go well beyond CAT score. Don't confuse submission with selection.

Prepare for WAT-PI from the day you submit the EOI form. Shortlist results come in batches, and you may have under three weeks between your first call and your first interview.
