IIT MBA programs (IIT Bombay SJMSOM, IIT Delhi DMS, IIT KGP VGSOM) have location advantage and strong placement averages but lack the legacy of even new IIMs for traditional MBA careers. IIT Bombay SJMSOM delivers Rs 25+ LPA average with strong tech product roles and operations placements. IIT Delhi DMS hits Rs 25+ LPA with heavy finance and consulting exposure.
IIT KGP VGSOM around Rs 20+ LPA. Fees at all three are relatively low compared to IIM Ahmedabad at Rs 27.5L or IIM Bangalore at Rs 26.
2L. The location of IIT Bombay (Mumbai) and IIT Delhi gives them unique positioning for finance and consulting roles. However, recruiter love for these IITs in traditional MBA hiring lags behind IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, and even older IIMs like IIM Kozhikode.
New IIMs (Udaipur, Trichy, Rohtak) at Rs 14-18L fees offer the IIM tag, which still pulls weight. IIT MBAs lack that tag but have tech-industry credibility. Verdict: for product management and tech-heavy roles, IIT Bombay/Delhi beat new IIMs.
For consulting, FMCG, finance, and general management, new IIMs have a slight edge on brand. Both are genuine Tier-2 options. Do not overlook IIT MBAs—SJMSOM placements in recent years have been excellent.
