MBA finance is NOT worth it only from top IIMs - new IIMs also produce 16-18 LPA finance outcomes for top 25% of batch. The OP's own trajectory (new IIM, finance, 16.5 LPA) disproves the "only BLACKI" myth. That said, the quality of finance roles varies dramatically:
- IIM ABC (Rs 26-27L fees, Rs 34+ LPA avg): Goldman Sachs PE/IB, Morgan Stanley Hedge Fund, JP Morgan, BCG-Gamma at Rs 30-50 LPA. Frontline roles with global exit opps,
- IIM L/K (Rs 22-24L fees, Rs 28-32 LPA avg): JPMC IB, Nomura, Kotak IB, ICICI, HDFC MT at Rs 20-28 LPA. Mix of frontline and middle office,
- FMS Delhi (Rs 2.43L fees, Rs 34 LPA avg): Strong finance placements at Rs 25-32 LPA given low fees, top 20% gets frontline IB,
- New IIMs (Rs 14-16L fees, Rs 17 LPA avg): HDFC, Axis, ICICI retail banking MT, corporate banking RM, treasury roles at Rs 12-18 LPA for top 25% - some outliers reach 20+ LPA via networking,
- Tier 2 private (TAPMI, GIM Goa, FORE with Rs 19-22L fees, Rs 10-12 LPA avg): Entry-level banking ops, insurance, wealth management at Rs 8-14 LPA. Frontline finance roles rare. The verdict: If you want bulge bracket IB/PE/Hedge Fund, you MUST target BLACKI + FMS. For mid-tier finance (AMC analyst, corporate banking, FP&A at MNCs), new IIMs work fine if you are in top 25% of batch. Skip tier 2 privates for MBA finance - the ROI math is painful at Rs 20+ lakhs fees for Rs 10 LPA roles. Check your eligibility at collvera.com/eligibility
