Is FMS Delhi worth choosing over IIM ABC?
FMS Delhi is worth choosing over IIM C and possibly IIM B for most profiles, and the ROI case is almost unanswerable: ₹2.43 lakh in fees versus ₹27.5 lakh at IIM A, yet placement averages sit within touching distance of each other.
The ROI Math Is Brutal
No other top-10 MBA program in India comes close to FMS on return-on-investment. The numbers are stark:
| College | Total Fees | Avg. Package | ROI Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| FMS Delhi | ₹2.43 L | ₹34 LPA | ~14x |
| IIM Ahmedabad | ₹27.5 L | ₹35.22 LPA | ~1.3x |
| IIM Calcutta | ~₹27 L | ~₹34 LPA | ~1.3x |
If you graduate debt-free from FMS while your IIM C peer carries a ₹25 lakh loan, you are functionally ₹3-4 lakh per year richer in real spending power for the first five years of your career. That gap compounds fast.
Where FMS Actually Competes
For investment banking, FMS places into Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Deutsche Bank with real regularity. MBB consulting (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) recruit actively from FMS, and general management roles at HUL, P&G, and similar FMCG giants treat FMS as a peer school to the IIMs.
Reddit hosts who picked FMS over IIM C cited "fresher-friendly finance placement depth" as a decisive factor, not just fee savings.
The alumni network punches above its weight.
FMS alumni hold senior positions at virtually every major Indian conglomerate and PSU, and WhatsApp alumni groups have reportedly opened Fortune 500 doors faster than formal career portals. Proximity to corporate Delhi also matters: the college sits inside the University of Delhi campus, and CFOs from Gurgaon and Connaught Place treat campus visits as a short commute.
Where IIM A and B Still Win
Be honest about the gaps.
FMS is a day-school model with a smaller physical campus. If you want the full residential MBA experience, IIM A or IIM B delivers it and FMS does not.
IIM B has a structural edge for product management and tech strategy roles, where Bangalore's startup and tech ecosystem feeds directly into placements. And outside India, the IIM A brand travels in a way FMS simply does not yet.
The small batch of 230 students cuts both ways: you get individual attention during placements, but peer-network diversity is narrower than IIM A's 400+ cohort.
How to Actually Decide
- FMS over IIM C: almost always yes, on ROI and comparable placement outcomes
- FMS over IIM B: yes for finance and general management, no for tech/PM roles
- FMS over IIM A: only if the ₹25 lakh fee differential genuinely strains your finances; IIM A's global brand and alumni depth justify the premium for most
One line that should settle the debate for 99.8+ percentilers with strong academics: FMS delivers identical career outcomes at roughly one-tenth the cost. Do not pick IIM L, IIM K, or IIM I over FMS. The ROI math simply does not work.
Pro Tip: If you receive both an FMS and an IIM C offer, ask each placement cell for the sector-wise breakout of last year's day-one offers before deciding, because average packages can mask thin representation in your target domain.
