IIM Ranchi edges out IIM Kashipur slightly on placements but both sit in the "new IIM" bucket with broadly similar outcomes. IIM Ranchi: Rs 14L fees, Rs 17 LPA average, CAT 92%+ cutoff. IIM Kashipur: similar fees around Rs 14-15L, Rs 16-17 LPA average placement, 91%+ cutoff.
Ranchi has better location (closer to Kolkata/East hub), stronger consulting intake via Accenture Strategy and TSMG, and historically better finance SIPs. Kashipur offers a more close-knit batch with better outdoor campus life in Uttarakhand. ROI at both is 5x fees in 5 years if you graduate top 40% - genuinely decent.
The harsh truth: top 10% at both places get Rs 20-25 LPA roles while bottom 25% land Rs 10-12 LPA jobs, which at 14L fees is a painful payback. Marketing roles (FMCG ASM at HUL, ITC, Asian Paints) are standard exits from both. Finance is weaker than Kozhikode/Indore - no consistent MBB or bulge bracket IB, mostly relationship manager roles at HDFC/Axis.
If you have to choose with same CAT percentile, pick Ranchi for slightly stronger alumni and proximity to major cities. Do NOT pick either over IIM Kozhikode (Rs 24L fees, Rs 28 LPA) or IIM Indore (Rs 16.5L fees, Rs 25 LPA) if you have those calls.
Both lose to FMS Delhi (Rs 2.43L fees, Rs 34 LPA) on ROI by a mile. Check your eligibility at collvera.
