How do ISB graduates compare with IIM A, B, and C graduates?

ISB is a one-year program requiring at least 24 months of work experience, which means the average cohort member joins with 4-5 years behind them.

IIM A, B, and C run two-year programs admitting students fresh out of college through the CAT, making their cohorts far more heterogeneous in experience.

A real perception gap exists in certain hiring circles.

IIM A and IIM C graduates are frequently seen as sharper in quantitative and analytical domains, partly a reflection of CAT's rigor and how academic performance is weighted in selection.

ISB graduates are consistently perceived as more globally fluent and polished in client-facing work, which matters enormously in roles at Oliver Wyman, L.E.K., or multinationals hiring for regional roles.

Alumni Network and Long-Term Career Arc

This is where IIM A, B, C hold a structural edge. Their alumni bases are larger, older, and more deeply embedded across Indian industry.

If you are targeting a 20-year career within India, the IIM ABC network compounds over time in ways ISB's younger, smaller network cannot yet match.

ISB's alumni skew toward MNCs and consulting firms, which matters more if your ambitions are international or in specific sectors like tech or global strategy.

The Honest Takeaway

If you have under two years of experience, IIM A or B is almost certainly the better choice given program fit alone. If you have 4+ years of strong corporate experience and want to pivot or accelerate quickly, ISB is a legitimate peer to IIM B and C, and arguably better suited to your situation than a two-year program built around fresh graduates.

IIM A sits at the top for domestic prestige, period. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
