Compete and Network

Case competitions matter more than online certificates. Participate in CFA Institute Research Challenge, NSE's Investor Protection Fund case study, or B-school pre-MBA competitions like those hosted by IIM Calcutta and XLRI.

Winning or even reaching finals adds a strong resume bullet and gives you finance vocabulary for interviews.

Join finance communities on Reddit, LinkedIn, and Slack. Contribute to discussions on equity research, portfolio construction, or fintech trends. Write two to three LinkedIn articles analyzing quarterly results of Nifty 50 companies or dissecting recent IPOs. Recruiters search LinkedIn for keywords like "equity research," "valuation," and "financial modeling."

Tailor Your MBA Application

When you build your MBA report, highlight your finance pivot story in essays. Quantify your learning: "Completed CFA Level I (top 10th percentile), built four valuation models, and consulted for two Series A startups." During interviews at IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, or FMS Delhi, be ready to explain why you're switching and how your prior domain (tech, pharma, manufacturing) adds a differentiated lens to finance roles.
