Does MDI Gurgaon accept XAT scores for admission?

MDI Gurgaon does not accept XAT scores for any of its programs. The institute runs a CAT-exclusive admission policy across all four full-time offerings: PGDM, PGDM-HRM, PGDM-IB, and PGDM-BA.

If you are preparing only for XAT, MDI Gurgaon is simply not accessible to you, no workaround exists.

What MDI Gurgaon Actually Requires

For the 2025-27 batch, MDI shortlisted candidates at 95+ percentile for its flagship PGDM and PGDM-HRM programs. PGDM-IB and PGDM-BA typically operate with slightly lower cutoffs, around 90-92 percentile, reflecting their smaller intake and specialized positioning.

These are CAT percentiles, nothing else counts at the shortlisting stage.

After the CAT cutoff filter, MDI's selection formula weights the CAT score at 50%, with the remaining half split across academic record (10th, 12th, graduation marks), work experience, GD performance, and PI performance. The institute conducts Group Discussions and Personal Interviews at multiple centers across India, typically in February and March.

Unlike several newer IIMs that have opened doors to GMAT or GMAT Focus for international applicants, MDI has held its CAT-only stance for over two decades.

Why XAT Simply Doesn't Apply Here

XLRI Jamshedpur built and owns the XAT ecosystem, and roughly 900 institutions accept XAT scores to varying degrees, but MDI is not among them.

XLRI is the only direct peer-tier alternative here. Its BM program places heavily into McKinsey, BCG, Aon, and EY for consulting and HR roles, while Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan recruit from the BM batch for finance roles.

5 LPA** average CTC makes it a credible target if CAT preparation isn't going your way.

The Honest Take

This is a one-exam gate.

MDI Gurgaon's placement record, with ₹35.22 LPA average CTC in recent batches and recruiters like HUL, BCG, and Amazon on campus, makes it worth the CAT-specific preparation. Trying to substitute XAT here is not a viable plan.

If CAT is genuinely off the table for you, redirect your energy toward XLRI through XAT rather than hoping MDI's policy changes.
