3+ years of work-ex at new IIMs creates placement headwinds because many recruiters filter at 3 years max. The ex-placecom AMA host stated: "Recruiters don't prefer students with more than 3+ years of work ex. Unless you have a good profile (8/8/8), it's going to be hard.
" At IIM Rohtak (Rs 16L fees, Rs 18 LPA avg) and similar new IIMs, high work-ex candidates get fewer shortlists but are preferred when shortlisted for senior roles. Realistic outlook: 3-4 yrs work-ex + 8/8/8 acads gets you Rs 15-20 LPA placements; 5+ yrs work-ex + same acads struggles below Rs 15 LPA without a specialised domain (banking, manufacturing, consulting). Firms that actively hire 3-5 yr ex candidates at new IIMs: specialised consulting (GEP, Vector), corporate banking (Kotak, ICICI), specific manufacturing leadership programmes.
The pay ceiling at new IIMs for experienced candidates: Rs 25-30 LPA maximum, which is often lower than what a good corporate lateral hire earns without an MBA. If you're 3+ yrs ex and 8/8/8, seriously consider IIM PGPX (executive MBA) at IIM A/B/C which is designed for your profile. Alternatively, ISB PGP (Rs 43L fees, Rs 34 LPA avg, GMAT 710+) specifically targets 3-5 yr ex and pays significantly better than new IIMs.
